Martha's Kitchen is a place where all members of New Kent and surrounding communities gather to be treated like family,
for home-cooked meals .
Martha’s Kitchen is a restaurant concept dedicated to this Nation’s original First Lady, Martha Washington. Not only was the First Lady born in New Kent, but she exhibited the strength, endurance, class and elegance of this vibrant community. She was a trailblazer and she was an overcomer. She set the precedent for all whom would follow her. She was a devoted wife and mother and was a caretaker of our Country.
Martha's exceptional qualities are what inspired the creation of Martha’s Kitchen, a place where people will come to experience the charm and warmth of Martha, while indulging in great food and quality service. One of the major initiatives Martha began as First Lady was a weekly reception, held on Friday evenings, for anyone who would like to attend. For these gatherings, members of Congress, visiting dignitaries, and men and women from the local community were received at the presidential mansion. After guests were introduced to Mrs. Washington, they enjoyed refreshments, talked with each other and mingled. This was a time that became an anticipated and meaningful event for those in positions of power to engage with their peers and the people they were charged to serve and protect.
We have worked to recreate this experience at Martha’s Kitchen to make it a place where members of the New Kent and surrounding communities can come and enjoy great comfort food, in an intimate and welcoming space, while connecting with history and reconnecting with each other. Come to Martha's to get a taste of great southern comfort food and hospitality!
